Professor Longjun Dong is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Resources and Safety Engineering, Central South University, China. He has long been engaged in research on metal mining and disaster prevention. He was awarded the National Science Fund of China(NSFC) for Distinguished Young Scholars (2024) and Excellent Young Scientists Fund (2018), Hunan Provincial Leading Talent (2021), and Hunan Provincial Distinguished Young Scholars (2018). He is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (FIMMM), International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV), and Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
Aiming for "hazard-free mining," Professor Dong has carried out systematic research in the field of “seismic source location–hazard identification–disaster prevention.” He proposed a microseismic source localization theory and method that does not require prior velocity measurement, developed a multi-source acoustic theory integrating localization, velocity imaging, and hazard zone identification, and created hardware and software systems for multi-parameter sensing and early warning, as well as in-situ rock-breaking mining equipment. These innovations have significantly contributed to the safe and sustainable extraction of national resources.
Professor Longjun Dong has published 109 papers as first or corresponding author, authored 2 academic monographs (in Chinese and English), and holds 55 Chinese invention patents and 1 international patent. He has led over 20 national projects, including the National Key R&D Program (Young Scientist Project) and NSFC International Cooperation Projects. His research has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award (rank 2), First Prize of Hunan Provincial Technological Invention Award (rank 2), Gold Medal at the Nuremberg International Invention Exhibition (rank 1), and multiple national and industry-level first prizes.
Professor Dong serves as editor or editorial board member for more than 10 international journals, including Safety Science (Elsevier), Scientific Reports (Nature Publishing Group), JASA Express Letters (Acoustical Society of America), and Arabian Journal of Geosciences (Springer). Since 2020, he has been listed among the “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers” and the global “Top 2% Scientists” annually.
